Experience uninterrupted service for clinical staff through maximum tube system performance, achieved via the latest software version, upgraded components, proactive maintenance, and access to our 24/7/365 customer support.

6 Key IT Security Considerations for Users (Current and Future):

1. Industry Standards – Regularly Upgrading Software

The most current software for your TransLogic pneumatic tube system is available for all tube systems that leverage Ethernet communications. Organizations can take advantage of:

  • Guaranteed software compliance of open-source code

  • Microsoft Active Directory® integration

  • Web interface features

  • Increased security when connected to an external database

Regular upgrades are highly recommended to ensure system stability and security while ensuring your system is utilizing the technology platform for the future. Other system updates outlined below may also be required to enable the software upgrade and maximize the tube system’s IT security status.

2. Server Configuration Flexibility – Physical or Virtual

Organizations can choose the most secure server configuration for their facility.

Tube system software can be deployed on either virtual or physical machines, and the database and reporting services can be co-located on the application server or distributed on separate servers. Organizations that upgrade may choose to utilize physical servers while keeping three separate servers. Or they may choose to consolidate into one server, which can be either a virtual or a physical server at your location.

Additionally, organizations may choose to support their new server configuration with either a SQL Enterprise or SQL Standard license.

More choice in how to increase IT Security means it will be easier to comply with health system policies.

3. Modern Stations – Include Touchscreen Panels

Modernizing stations is easy with the Intuitive Touchscreen Panels. This means that no matter which software version your health system is using to control the TransLogic pneumatic tube system, modernizing your stations to include Intuitive Touchscreen Panels has the following benefits:

  • Users will be more efficient and less frustrated

  • Station design will reflect on your modern healthcare

  • IT Security will be heightened to protect data integrity when paired with TransLogic software

Note: Updating panels is a key move for all our customers, especially the few who are still using legacy IQ panels which are now obsolete parts.

4. Hardware Lifecycle – Get Current to Remain Current
  • Evaluate RDAC Upgrades

Among other security concerns which arise from continued use of a legacy Windows Operating System, there are high impact implications to the pneumatic tube system when still running Windows XP®. If a system includes Xpress Technology it utilizes a Remote Device Array Controller (RDAC) which could be running Windows XP®. This means that prior to upgrading software, we need to ensure that the system has the newest RDAC with Windows 10®. We highly advise this upgrade to avoid Microsoft-stated security issues and to enable a more secure tube system.

  • Eliminate Old Transfer Unit (TU) and Blower Boards

ITS TU/Blower Control Boards will extend the useful life of the entire pneumatic tube system. They will also improve the IT Security with a Trusted Platform Module (TPM) which prevents tampering with the firmware.

This is a critical upgrade as these Legacy boards have reached their end-of-serviceable-life. This means that upgrading will prevent long-term downtime. Without the upgrade to new boards, our service team will only be able to help in maintaining the system for a limited period of time.

5. HITRUST Certification – Product and Business Environment

TransLogic has expanded on the HITRUST environment certification by adding HITRUST product certification. The tubesystem software has passed a rigorous, independent auditvalidating its security controls assuring users that the softwarehas comprehensive risk management and high-levelcybersecurity maturity.

6. Maximize Transport Security and Tracking
  • Card Security Access

Sometimes the smallest enhancements can offer very noticeable impact. When WhoTube Card Access tracks transactions by using hospital security cards, the whole system is more secure. If a health system is not already using WhoTube, this is a great time to enhance the overall experience with the TransLogic pneumatic tube system. This is a fast and easy change which means heightened security across the board.

  • Carrier Tracking and Tracing

One key advantage of using RFID-enabled carriers in the pneumatic tube system includes always having a clear understanding of where carriers reside in the hospital. This makes for simpler inventory management and complements departmental workflows. Depending on the tube system configuration, some additional hardware updates may be necessary to make RFID tracking work.
